I must admit that I hadn't heard of a Jesse tree, but what a lovely way of getting children to talk about biblical stories.
Hope you raise lots of money.

I try not to push religion down people's throats, but as an RS teacher it does worry me how few children know any Bible stories. Whether you believe in God or not they are central to our culture in art and literature, so they should know them. I get members of the English department asking me to explain references in poems and novels. My favourite moment was when I was doing a study day for RS specialists at the National Gallery. We were looking at a picture of the Raising of Lazarus, when the young man standing next to me said 'Is that a story in the Bible then?' No wonder children don't get taught these things. Conversely, I took the ornaments to a local craft group when I was finishing the last few. None of the ladies there are church goers, but they could identify every one!

My daughter has never been a religious person
But being a teacher she has to cover it with reception classes she said the times she had had to stifle a laugh

Her husband and In laws have a huge connection to the church as they were brought up to be ,as the grandfather was a
Deacon of the local church
Daughter goes to most Sunday services now little one is older but will let her make her own decision when she is older
At the moment she enjoys joining in with the activities but daughter always takes a book to entertain her
Well a while back she insisted to take the shrek DVD case with her so for a quiet life she let her
When asked who the characters were she said shrek was grandma(I'm nanny)phew
Princess Fiona was mummy and donkey was Jesus
Some of the more devout congregation were aghast
Why is donkey Jesus ?
Her reply was I love donkeys

I always enjoyed going to the Methodist chapel Sunday School, but hated all the C of E ones. Something to do with it being too posh for my liking I guess. My mother always insisted I was 'High' Church of England, but would never explain to me exactly what she meant by that. I do remember being very naughty and skipping Sunday School in the end. I used to go to the art gallery and museum in Leeds instead. I reckoned it was a much better education, and there were quite a lot of religious pictures in the gallery. My very favourite was The Fair Nun Unmasked by Henry Robert Morland. Still in the rt gallery I believe.
