I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I want to make some hat pins and wonder where the best place is to go for the findings, etc.

Dips is probably the best person to ask!

Hobby House sell a kit (it was on C&C over the weekend, but is not on the site anymore). This is the link (direct to their web site)

Thanks EssexAnne and Deefersmum. I saw the kit on C & C Deefersmum but I really want separate bits so I can make them in the colours I need. I knew someone on here used to make the most gorgeous hat pins - it could well have been Dips EssexAnne; hopefully someone will come along :joyous:

Sue Wilson makes her own hat pins and Creative Expressions now source 'the bits' to make hat pins. If you search for Creative Expression suppliers you should be able to find some one who sells them.

Here's some sites:

Thank you so much PP that gives me a start. Strangely it's the blank pins I am having most difficulty with.

Check out eBay, I have bought loads of jewellery making stuff on there. Sometimes I have had to wait a wee while as it comes from China, but there are also companies here in the UK that stock virtually everything one could ever need.

Hi Granny Penny, just back on the forum myself in the last few days, but I think I can help!

I have 2 tutorials on my blog
http://www.dipsdesigns.com/2012/01/creating-hatpins-tutorial.html
http://www.dipsdesigns.com/2012/04/decorative-hat-pins-next-steps.html

I generally source my items off eBay and the Next Steps tutorial uses the exact terms you'd need to search for on EBay to find the items. I can also recommend Southampton Bead Shop http://www.dipsdesigns.com/2012/01/creating-hatpins-tutorial.html which is the only place I can find the tiny rhinestone rondelle spacers that I absolutely love.

I've also just filmed a video tutorial on hat pins and hope to load it to YouTube in the next week or so.

That is just what I need Dips - thank you so much. I did wonder if I was using the right terms.

Thank you all for your help. It is good to "see" you again. :-)

A few years ago they were on everything. It's amazing how what was so hot has now been replaced.

Jube, I agree that things go in and out of favour but they usually come round again at some point :-) I don't want these for cards but for the Christmas decorations I make. Thank you everyone - it is really good to see you are all still out there crafting :-)

This was my finished article - I am really bad at taking photos I am afraid. I did learn some interesting techniques but I am still not sure where I can take them!:joyous:

I'd take them in a jiffy! They're lovely and would suit my eclectic tree (posh word for nothing matches)!

I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I want to make some hat pins and wonder where the best place is to go for the findings, etc.

BJ's Craft Supplies has hat pin bases (http://www.bjcraftsupplies.com/jewelryFindings/pin01.asp) and other jewelry findings and beads.
