Here ya go peeps, a picky of Jane Greenoff's sweete bag. Not finished its matching pin cushion yet as I only made a start on it this afternoon while attempting to watch the horse racing.

Jane only worked the stitching on one side, but me being me had to do it on both sides as it seemed such a waste of fabric to have it empty. Will probably do the same on the pin cushion. ;)

No sweeties m'dear. They were used in Elizabethan times (Liz the wonth that is) to keep bits and bobs in, bit like a reticule I guess. They often included something sweet smelling, hence its name of a sweete bag. I am going to add lots of lavender to the matching pincushion which I am working on now. Life was a bit whiffy in Tudor England, don't think they were all that keen on washing, neither were the Georgians, so they needed something that smelled nice to hide the awful stinks.

The way things are at the moment I reckon we might all need something to keep the smells at bay. Not content with getting us all out of the bath and into a shower to save on leccy and water, we are now being told that we should not spend more than three minutes under aforementioned shower. Huh, it takes me that long just to wash my hair.
