Has anyone tried making their own notepads - the ones with the glue across the top and you tear off the page? I was wondering whether you could use something like Pinflair book making glue? It needs to be a glue that dries with a rubbery thick consistency.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many years ago you used to be able to buy a roller glue that was semi permanent - Pritt? Would that work? It would give a straight line of glue too.

Hmm interesting question. Bookbinding glue might be too firm a hold if you just want to peel off a page at a time so as LJ and PP say semi-permanent might be better. Just an idea - glue the pages firmly but add perforations across the top?

I'd thought of that as well, but I was being lazy in that if I already have to cut out all the sheets and then perforate them as well.... yawn!

I've got several of the Sizzix journal etc dies, but just wanted something simplistic.

If you have any of the bookbinding glue it might be worth giving it a try. I know when I have used it to hold up my net curtain hooks I have been able to remove the glue without any problems when they have eventually come down. Not that they do that of their own accord I might add, they are usually ably assisted by a certain black/white/pink furry being. I won't say what her name is, but it isn't Oscar!

I have a feeling that this glue would normally be applied with some form of heat. As in binding machines.
Just a thought, would a hot glue gun work?

If you squidge a line of hot glue onto a mat, then press the edge of the pad into it so that the back of the glue is level. trim off excess with craft knife. you would need to clamp pages to hold them tight

I’d be tempted to try a latex adhesive but I haven’t tried it so I can’t say if it works.

I guess it depends what you need or want the finished pad for really, if its for gifting/selling they need to be right but if its for yourself you can have a play. I make my own for shopping list etc but I use a stapler 'cos only moi sees 'em!

That's my problem JM - they're for selling so you have to get it right. I always make and test items before I pass them on.

Deefy, I've just been on to YouTube to have a look for you, I put "making notepads" in the search bar and as you'd expect there's loads of video's, but I've looked at a couple and they used something called "Padding Compound" (looked like white PVA) and when the paper was stacked and clamped together they painted it on one end & left for 25 mins then repeated. After the second time drying they were ready to use. Don't know where you buy it but someone else may do or one of the video's might tell you.

I watched some of those vids last night as well. I searched for padding compound on Amazon and amongst the results they had the Pinflair book binding glue (and other book binding glues). Someone asked if it could be used for making tear off notepads and a lady answered saying she'd used it and it was fine. The actual padding compound worked out quite expensive, so I've bought some Pinflair and I'll let you know how I get on. At least if it doesn't work for the notepads I can use it for something else.

Ooh, yes, please keep us informed. I've been collecting small boxes e.g. the ones our pills come in, with a view to turning them into mini book covers. It would be nice to have then option of putting notepads in them rather than pages sewn in or held by elastic bands.
