Page 3 of the Country Sampler book is now finished, well apart from folding it in half and sewing round the edges ready for inserting in the book. It seemed easier to photograph the thing as a whole rather than have two pictures.

There is also a photograph of my first attempt at Carrickmacross Lace. Not very good, the destructions were not easy to follow, and I can't see the holes in the net to do the filling, so left it out. Still it is a start. I have ordered a kit from Canada, so will see if their instructions are any easier to follow. At least I have loads of materials to play about with.

It isn't really complicated, or at least not unless one does the filling stitches. It is a case of drawing out the design onto tracing paper, laying the net, followed by the organdie over the top, tacking them all together, then stitching the coarse thread (20's crochet cotton) over the outline using 50's lace making thread. The problem I had was that the destructions didn't always specify exactly where to go next on the important bits. Some of the organdie has to be cut away from the net, which was a bit fiddly.

Anywhoo, looking forward to the kit from Canada, which will probably take at least a month to come, even by airmail. In the meantime I might have another go at one of the bookmarks, of I may settle for getting on with some prick and stitch cards.

Page 4 is now complete. Will make a start on page five sometime tomorrow, which is the Hardanger page, my favourite. ;)

Beautiful Roz, whats the actual sizes of the pages or have I missed it? (probably the latter !!)

The book itself is about 4.5 square, each page, which is folded in half and stitched together, is about 3.5 square.

I completed the grid work on page five, plus the four sided square stitch which is the spine and the division on some of the pages. Then made a start on the smaller flower. I think Jane says to work the centre flower on the other half of the page before working the Hardanger, but knowing me I would manage to miscount, so will do part of the Hardanger first, then the flower. She can do things her way, and I will do 'em mine! I know she doesn't do the gridding, and she doesn't use a frame, soooo each to their own and all that I say. ;)
