maybe not what you need for scrapbooks but there are two great (but very similar lol) tutorials for roses, one in grungepaper and one in embossing foil in this month's craft stamper....I reckon they would also work nicely with double sided heavy paper/light cardstock...maybe somehow with starched fabric too....

They are what prompted me to buy the mag Sheila. Only trouble, I don't have a six petal punch, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

oh easy peasy, neither have I. Start with a square of paper and fold it in half corner to corner then open it up and fold the other way so you can see where the centre of the paper is. Now hold the paper with the long folded side downwards and the two points (corners) facing up. At this point if you want super accuracy, get a protractor and mark off 3 60 degree angles at the centre of the long folded side dividing the folded paper into thirds. If you are like me and sloppy then bend one side of the long side of the paper backwards and the other sides forwards, adjusting as you go until you have three equal pieces. Cut straight across the top of the folded paper where all the pointy bits are to give you a straight third side. draw a lightly deeper than semi circle shape along the third side, then cut along the drawn line. open up and you will have the template consisting of three heart shapes or six petals....will post some pics later.

lovely ideas, but don't want to make flowers that take too long. Use them on nearly all my cards so dont mind using a die but looking for some good sites to buy ready made from too.
I am just so lazy...................

Thanks Sheila. My brain was just not following the written word but the pics make it obvious.
I would still quite like a nice large 6 petal punch though, but this will do nicely until I can find one. I have the lovely EK Success Retro one, but that only has 5 petals on it.

try it....5 might work, you'd need to reshape half a petal on one layer maybe?

If you should still want instructions for making your own flowers there are quite a few on the Whiff Of Joy blog. The one included on this tutorial is simple but very effective and quick to make http://whiffofjoy.blogspot.com/2009/09/easel-card-by-jacqui.html.

It started with a mention of some stunning flowers http://www.craftcritique.com/2010/02/cha-paper-lines-more-melissa-frances.html on Craft Critique which evenually led to this blog http://danielleflanders.blogspot.com/2010/01/crepe-paper-roses.html and then onto these little beauties http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoA9YPbuXKY on You Tube
They look so easy to make and such a stunning effect, doncha think? :)
