Hiya I have a basic 12 stitch sewing machine but would love to do some quilting. Which sewing machine would be suitable or can I keep mine but buy a new foot Hope this makes some sense as I really don't know much about sewing machines. Thanx jo

Hi Jo - depending on the brand and model of your machine it is pretty likely you can buy additional feet to help you with quilting. What machine do you have?

Is it a walking foot they suggest for quilting because of the layers? I think you just need to ascertain if it's a low shank or not then you could probably just buy the foot and spend all your other money on lovely fabric!

I've got a 20 year old New Home/Janome machine and it's still going strong.

If it's a Janome machine you should be able to use Janome feet. I found this page and it helps you identify which Janome category your machine belongs to, and which accessories (including feet) fit that machine. In general the feet used for quilting are pretty generic and I'm sure you'll be able to find them easily!!

Oh well - if you still have the user guide it will probably give you the information you need in there! Or give the Janome help desk a call and I expect they'd be more than happy to help!! I've never had a Janome but I generally hear good things about their customer service.

No panic SooG, I just thought that in this day and age, computers and internet, things would be kept more up to date, if you know what I mean? Much the same as a new presenter appearing on a channel, it's months before they have a picture appear on the website.

Ahhh - that's because it's people and not machines that have to compose the actual update -- and our ability to remember all the updates we have to make isn't always so good. :) :)
