Stick to DMC threads love, much easier to find. This site will give you some idea of what colours you need :
http://www.mystitchworld.com/Needlep...p#.YPMzm-hKhPY |not an exact match, but better than nothing. I buy my Mill Hill beads from Lakeside Needlework https://www.lakesideneedlecraft.co.u...tons-397-c.asp

As for the Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasury Braid, I found this conversion to Kreinik threads http://juliesxstitch.com/stitching-t...nik-conversion Lakeside also sell the Kreinik metallic threads. Use the braid in short lengths as it has a mind of its own and splits very easily.

Some of Jane Greenoff's kits have two types of thread. Usually Madeira, in days of old DMC, but she also uses pure silk in some of the kits.

I am working on the Victorian Sampler yearly SAL at the moment and using whatever threads take my fancy. I started out using spare bits of DMC, but have done the dividing sections in Madeira as it was some Jane gave me. I got fed up of the colour changes in the trees, grass, water, etc, so have been using variegated threads as well. They are anything I have in my stash, Weeks Dye Works, Crescent Colors, Several types of DMC variegated, Sparklies, Thread Works, plus another that I can't remember off the top of my head.

They are all the same thickness, just do a different thing. I am also using the same variegated threads on the Purple Peppermint Blackwork 2021 SAL, though I am using black on the 2020 SAL.

I think there may be different sized Mill Hill beads - small ones get used when you are working face over 1 thread and the other when working over 2 threads.
Really sorry for not thanking you CSF, for some reason I thought Lioness had put both the posts up. Teach me not to look properly!

    Thank you both once again.

Thanks Roz, I did manage to find Lakeside Crafts yesterday and ordered the beads from them as per my post but didn't say Lakeside.

Will have a look now to see if I've already got some of the DMC threads in my stash. Here's hoping!!!

I hope you don't have the same hassle finding the threads as I did this morning Waterlily. Honestly you couldn't make it up. I have the entire range of DMC threads, including the variegated, as well as the Etoile. Granted the latter two are not in my drawer, partly because there isn't room, but mainly because there are not as many of them as there are of the plain colours.

I cut them into lengths and thread them onto card with colour number and name. Not that DMC have ever given them names, but most of the charts I have do have names. Anywhoo, I put so many into a plastic bag, including any extras of colours I use a lot, 666, 310, blanc, etc. The bags are then placed in the drawer in order. Sooo this morning I needed 676 (gold) and 702 (green). They should be at the front of the middle section. Could I find the blessed things? Nope. In the end thinking I had mixed the bag up somewhere, wouldn't be the first time, I took the entire drawer out. Went through the fist lot, nope, started on the second lot, still couldn't find them, yet five minutes later they were exactly where they should be, right at the front. To say I was cross would be an understatement as I had wasted half an hour of stitching time hunting for the dratted things.

At least I didn't have to do too much hunting for the beads. Christmas green seed beads and
red red petite beads. Seed beads are normally stitched in a diagonal over two threads as in normal cross stitch over linen or evenweave. However petite beads are also normally stitched over two but as a cross stitch, so they lie differently. Bugle beads are normally done the same way, but over a different number of threads depending on the length of the bead.

After I ordered the beads I suddenly remembered where I'd put all my beads - don't ask lol. I haven't checked yet but will later today. In my craft room I've got about 3 chests of tiny drawers just right for beads and small embellishments so they might br there.
