Crafters companion stick and spray it’s a temporary adhesive ,(not to be confused with stick and stay which is permanent )

I use it on my cricut cutting mats when the sticky has worn off
And when using the old style stamps that had no backing on works a treat with the acrylic blocks

That was the stuff I was thinking of. Think I have both lurking in a box. Yup, I do know which box, just can't be bothered to drag everything off the top of it.

I vaguely remember Pritt stick was a possibility as it wouldn't set firm with rubber or plastic.

That's what I use too. Does the job and easy to wash off afterwards. Even strong double sided tape will work too.
